FAQs

Hardware/Systemumgebung

Are there any devices you would recommend?

Yes, for example, we consider the Honeywell CK65, the CT45XP, or the Zebra MC3300ax to be good.

Does MDE.next also work over a mobile network?

Yes, it works as long as the device supports it technically.

Can I source the hardware myself?

Yes, you can! In that case, only a setup fee for the hardware will apply, which is already included in our hardware prices. We’re also happy to provide hardware recommendations.

Do all devices need a camera?

No, a scanning engine is sufficient. However, MDE.next can also capture photos for each document and item. If you want to use this feature, you should ensure that the devices you purchase are capable of taking photos.

From which Sage version is MDE.next compatible?

From Sage 100 version 9.0.4.

Do I need full Wi-Fi coverage?

If you want to work in online mode, you need a well-developed Wi-Fi network. However, short-term connection interruptions are not a problem, as the entered data will not be lost in the meantime. If you want to work in offline mode, Wi-Fi is not necessary. A connection is only required to transfer and update the data to the ERP system.

Can I also use the software offline?

Yes, this is possible with the so-called offline mode. A connection to the servers is only required to update the data on the devices and to transfer it to Sage 100.

I have purchased a new device. How do I get the software onto it?

Our support team will be happy to assist you. Please give us a call.

Which ERP systems is MDE.next compatible with?

Sage 100 from version 9.0.4.

Sage Distribution and Manufacturing Operations (SDMO).

Lizenzmodell/Preise

How many licenses do I need?

You need as many licenses as you plan to use devices. It is possible for multiple colleagues to use the same device.

How much does MDE.next cost per month?

The rental of the software for the Trade Package (including Purchasing, Inventory/Warehousing, and Sales) costs €65 per scanner per month. The Production Package (including Purchasing, Inventory/Warehousing, Sales, and Production) costs €95 per scanner per month. A standalone Production License (Production/Time Tracking) costs €35 per scanner per month. The scanners can be used by multiple users. Upon request, we will be happy to send you our complete price list.

What costs will I incur during implementation?

Unfortunately, this cannot be stated in general terms, as it depends on many factors—for example, your experience, the existing warehouse structure, and your training needs. However, in an initial consultation, we can quickly provide clarity and transparency.

Does MDE.next require its own Sage 100 license?

No, this is not necessary. You only need a third-party license per device from Sage, and your Sage 100 should be at least version 9.0.4.

Are there additional modules that are compatible with MDE.next?

Yes, our abacus portfolio offers a wide range of options to expand your Sage 100. For example, shipping unit management and labeling, advanced subcontracting (including consignment stock), batch management and quality assurance, integration of scales, or our comprehensive package—the industry solution for traceability. The possibilities are extensive.

Service

How can I reach support?

You can reach our support team Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM at +49 38852 6010. Another option is to create an account for our Helpdesk. There, you can submit tickets yourself in our ticket system, which will then be handled by our support team colleagues.

Is there a hotline contract?

We have deliberately decided against a hotline contract because we find it fairer! If support is needed, we charge based on the effort involved. If no support is required, there are no costs for you.

My business processes need to be adjusted. What now?

That is not a problem. We will schedule an appointment and advise you on how to implement the new requirements using MDE.next. In most cases, thanks to our extensive configuration options, that is all that is needed.

I have found an error in the software. What can I do?

Nobody is perfect, so our request to you: please report it! We will fix it before the release of our next version.

Tägliches Arbeiten

What happens to the photos taken?

We deliberately clear the device’s camera archive to ensure that no manipulation can occur; for example, an older photo cannot be saved to a document.

What options do I have to log in to the software?

You can log in using a username/password combination, with an employee card containing a barcode, or via an RFID chip.

My Wi-Fi connection is temporarily interrupted. Are my data still saved?

Don’t worry—your data are temporarily stored on the device until they are finally processed. However, the MDE.next app must remain open for this.

How is data security organized?

All relevant data are stored in the Sage database after processing. Backing up data on the device is not necessary.

Can I manage permissions on the device?

Yes, we can configure the system so that the user only sees or can access the areas on the device that they are allowed to view or edit.

Does MDE.next work with Sage DMS?

Yes, the documents processed in MDE.next can be archived in the DMS.

Does MDE.next support perpetual inventory?

Yes, with MDE.next, both a periodic inventory (based on a specific date) and a perpetual inventory can be performed.

What does the shopping cart in the software mean?

The shopping cart shows which items I have already scanned. These are marked with a green check mark. If I am processing a document that indicates which items I need to pick (a so-called target document), it also shows me which items still need to be recorded.

Which languages are supported on mobile?

All areas of MDE support the following languages (additional translations available on request):

  • Arabic

  • Bulgarian

  • German

  • English

  • Dutch

  • Polish

How long does it take for the data to be transferred to the ERP?

The service for processing the data is automatically triggered every 6 seconds by default (in online mode).

Can I continue to use my existing warehouse location labels?

Yes, you can, as long as they include a scannable code.

Can I implement checks to ensure quality during scanning?

Yes, we can implement checks at any stage. Example standard checks include: Was the correct item selected? Has the expiration date passed? Is the remaining shelf life taken into account? Was the correct batch or serial number selected? Was the FIFO principle followed? These are just a few of the possible checks. Please feel free to contact us.

Are barcodes absolutely necessary for using MDE?

They are desirable, as they make work easier and reduce errors. However, it is possible to select items, batches, serial numbers, storage locations, etc., manually. For optimal use of MDE.next, we recommend abacus labeling (item and shipping unit labeling).

Can I take photos with MDE.next?

Yes, you can take photos for each item as well as for each document. These are then transferred to Sage 100 via the service. The devices must have a camera.
